Going retro in the home

Have you ever wondered what it must be like to live in the past? How did our ancestors fair in the world and what did they choose to decorate their home with? For the most part many of us get inspiration from visiting heritage sites like those offered by the National Trust for Scotland or England, English Heritage and CADW. Within the walls of these fine homes lay furniture that is of such ornate work it seems impossible to find it today. That’s not always the case. For example a Vintage Style Sofa, like those from https://vintagesofawarehouse.co.uk can bring your regency days back into the modern home.

These design classics can fit in easily with the modern flatpack furniture that we have today but why stop there? Kitting out the entire room with an Edwardian drawing room look. It’s not too difficult to find fixtures and fittings that complement these retro styles.

There is always the sense that previous designers got it “right” over their more modern counterparts. The reason for this is surprisingly simple, only the good stuff is left! The other thing to remember is that the average person would have hardly owned anything like the grandeur you see in the stately home. They would have been lucky to have table chairs, straw beds and a welsh dresser to keep the odd amount of cutlery, pots and pans and merge chinaware. It’s a sign of our modern times that we can now have items, once thought exclusive, so easily available to us.
